July 10 is National Pick Blueberries Day

blueberries at Loma Vista Farm Vallejo— National Pick Blueberries Day is on July 10th—

A National Day to get us outside into the summer sunshine. Just as the name says, it is a day to
go outside and pick blueberries. Picking blueberries is as satisfying as picking your own cherries
or strawberries. Though you have to look closely for the ripe fruit, the plants are often waist high
which limits the amount bending ore reaching for fruit. And, the act of “foraging” through
wild patches of berries is a joy that’s simply hard to match.

These tasty nutritious fruits are full of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. They are:

* Low in calories
* One handful has the RDA for Manganese
* Very low Glycemic Index
* High in fiber

Plus, blueberries make a great addition to many recipes and they’ll taste that much better when you add
your hand-picked, fresh blueberries.
