Stage 2 Alpaca/Sheep Barn

Loma Vista Farm is working on Stage 2 of the Farm’s Master Plan. Their next project is the Alpaca/Sheep Barn. Below are the features and timeline of the new barn. Find out how you can help fund this great project.

The new goat barn design was carefully thought through to ensure nothing was missed. This project is a huge undertaking and will modernize the Farm’s Alpaca barn for safety and efficiency!

Features of the new alpaca/sheep barn design include:

Pens on both sides of a 8-foot covered walkway so that students and alpacas/sheep can greet each other any time of the year.
Indoor pens with roof tall enough so that caretakers and Farm staff can work comfortably and easily keep pens clean.
Eco-friendly design to ensure that water drainage and waste can be recycled for farm use, moving manure to the gardens while filtering and recycling water.
Barn design to allow all children full and safe access to the farm animals.
Full access for all students and adults including special-need students/adults.
Building design allowing for self-cooling in the summer and warming in the winter, with a porch on the side hit by winter rains to keep the stalls dry.

Features of the new barn include:

Heat control during summer months with insulated walls and ceiling fan
Rainwater capture and recycled
Utility station for farm events
Drainage allowing for recycle of manure for the gardens
Food storage and secure storage room.
Walkway allowing wheelchair accessibility to goats so that all children can enjoy an equal experience
Water access and feeders in all pens
Washing station for students in aisle
Better exterior lighting for safety
