Syar Foundation donates $20,000 to Loma Vista Farm
The Syar Foundation recently donated $20,000 to Loma Vista Farm with the grant earmarked for security enclosure as part of the north Vallejo animal sanctuary’s long-term expansion plan.
Syar Foundation president Susan L. Syar approved the grant, grateful for the opportunity “to provide support for improvement to the Farm for the students and general public in the Vallejo
community,” according to the letter accompanying the check to Loma Vista Farm. “We are excited about the impact this grant will have and thankful for this significant donation from Syar,” said Julia Allen, president of the Friends of Loma Vista Farm board of directors.
Recently completed upgrades include electrical and landscaping. Land maintenance in the pig pen where Daisy and Rockstar reside and picnic table upgrades are on the horizon, as is installing numerous “memory bricks.”
Much needed greenhouse renovation or replacement, farm expansion, and a visitor center are included in the master plan.
Loma Vista Farm opened in 1974 and has welcomed thousands of school age kids from throughout Solano County on its 5-acre site. The farm is overseen by the Vallejo City Unified School District.
Syar Industries, founded by C.M. “Tony” Syar in 1938, has production facilities at the Lake Herman quarry and facilities in Napa, Healdsburg, and Sacramento.
The Syar Foundation started in 1998 as a nonprofit corporation. Since 2006, the Syar Foundation has made over $4.5 million in grants.
